Dr. Mark Nathan (UB Asian Studies, UB Dept. of History) was awarded the Association for Asian Studies Northeast Asia Council Distinguished Speakers Bureau Award for Fall  2017.

The award supports the visit of Dr. Louise Young (University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dept. of History), a historian of modern Japan. From her website: “I am a historian of modern Japan. My research and teaching interests include Japanese international relations, World War Two in Asia, comparative imperialism, Japanese urbanism and urban modernism between the wars, local history, and most recently, sociology and social policy. I am currently working on two book projects: Middle Class Myths in Modern Japan: A Cultural History of Social Power and Sociology and the “Social Problem” in Prewar Japan.”

We hope you will join us for her public lecture on October 25, 2017!
